Kansas Masonic Foundation Supports Local Kansas Masonic Lodge With High School Donation

Williamsburg, Kansas (April 12, 2024)—The Kansas Masonic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefiting Kansas communities, has partnered with Anchor Lodge No. 224 to donate $600 to Waverly High School to help reward positive student behavior and decrease student absence rates.

Founded in 1884, Anchor Lodge No. 224 is a Kansas Masonic lodge dedicated to Freemasonry, the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world. The lodge has 41 active members and supports numerous local charities, including donating to the Williamsburg Community Building, fundraising and donating to the SCC Community Honor Flight Program, providing scholarships to local Williamsburg and Waverly students, promoting nutritional food programs in Williamsburg and Waverly grade schools, and sponsoring a cancer screening event in the community. Anchor Lodge No. 224 has also previously donated to the Coffey County Cancer Support Group, Workers In God’s Storehouse (WINGS), Wellsville Friends, and the Franklin County Cancer Foundation.

“Waverly Schools have been working with students to get their homework turned in, show up to school, and eliminate office discipline,” said Anchor Lodge No. 224 Secretary Steve Milliken. “The students who succeed in these three areas will receive a small monthly reward, and students who have received every monthly reward during the second semester will be invited on a school-sponsored trip. We believe in rewarding such achievements to decrease absence rates and encourage positive behavior.”

Continuing with their support of the local community, the Brothers at Anchor Lodge No. 224 have teamed up with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to provide a monetary donation of $600 to Waverly High School. To reward kids who have demonstrated kindness, dedication, and discipline, the funds donated will help send students to the Kansas City Zoo and assist with purchasing a lunchtime meal. All students attending the event have turned in all of their homework, have not had any office discipline incidents, and do not have any unexcused absences. This year is the first year Waverly High School has implemented Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) parties, and the school is already witnessing a decrease in chronic absenteeism. A formal donation announcement will take place in the coming weeks.
