Kansas Masonic Foundation Supports Local Kansas Masonic Lodge With Prom Donation

Kingman, Kansas (February 9, 2024)—The Kansas Masonic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefiting Kansas communities, has partnered with Ninnescah Lodge No. 230 to donate $200 to Kingman Project Prom, a chaperoned, alcohol and drug-free function following the local high school prom.

Founded in 1884, Ninnescah Lodge No. 230 is a Kansas Masonic Lodge dedicated to Freemasonry, the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world. The lodge has nearly 60 members and is heavily involved in community service. Some of their most notable contributions include hosting a Masonic Cancer Screening Clinic, volunteering at the Kingman County Fair, sponsoring movies at the Kingman Historical Theatre, awarding scholarships to local high school students, and preparing meals for local Veterans.

“We have supported the Kingman Project Prom organization for 25 years and believe they provide a fun and safe evening for the teens in our community,” said Shane Bales, Secretary of Ninnescah Lodge No. 230. “Prom is supposed to be one of the happiest days of our kids’ lives, but for too many, it turns into tragedy. When tragedy hits, it affects our students, our families, our school, and our community. The rewards of a fun and safe evening for our teens are immeasurable. If we can keep one student alive—one family free of an alcohol or drug-related tragedy—we will have succeeded in our efforts.”

To help further their mission of providing support to students within the community, the Brothers at Ninnescah Lodge No. 230 have teamed up with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to provide a monetary donation of $200 to Kingman Project Prom. Project Prom was conceived as a viable alternative to all-night post-prom parties, where alcohol and drug abuse often lead to tragic accidents and sometimes even death. The primary objective is to offer students and their dates a chaperoned, safe, alcohol and drug-free function immediately following the high school prom. All funds donated by Ninnescah Lodge No. 230 in collaboration with the Kansas Masonic Foundation will be used to cover various costs associated with hosting the annual event, and a formal donation presentation will take place in the coming weeks.
