On August 21st, the Coffeyville, Kansas Keystone Masonic Lodge No. 102 voted to donate $10,000 to help support the recovery efforts of their fellow Masons and families in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. Two weeks after the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than a century swept through their community, authorities say more than 800 people still remain unaccounted for — a staggering number that presents huge challenges for officials who are trying to determine how many of those perished and how many may have made it to safety but haven’t checked in. In response to the devastating fires, Masons across the U.S. are working to support their affected brothers and those families who have been tragically displaced or lost loved ones.

In a recent message, the Grand Master of Masons in Hawaii said, “This event has left us all with heavy hearts. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals and families affected by this tragedy. We stand in solidarity with those who may be grappling with loss, displacement, or uncertainty. While material possessions can be rebuilt, the emotional wounds caused by such events can linger. We will be a beacon of light for our community, providing comfort, compassion, and assistance as we can. Let us also use this moment to reflect on the fragility of life and the importance of being prepared, not just physically but also in terms of the support systems we offer to one another. I encourage you to reach out to those in Maui to express your condolences, offer assistance, or simply let them know that they are not alone in this challenging time.”

Assistance may be provided through Masonic Charities of Hawaii, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, by contacting David Gomes, davidgomes@hawaii.rr.com, or Anthony Escasa, anthony.j.escasa@gmail.com.
