Kansas Masonic Foundation Supports Local Kansas Masonic Lodge With Historical Preservation Society Donation
Burlingame, Kansas (June 30, 2023)—The Kansas Masonic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefiting Kansas communities, has partnered with Corinthian Lodge No. 79 to donate $2,500 to the Burlingame Historical Preservation Society, an organization aiming to preserve and maintain the Burlingame area history and make it further available to the public.
Founded in 1869, Corinthian Lodge No. 79 is a Kansas Masonic lodge dedicated to Freemasonry, the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world. The lodge has 33 members and is highly involved in the community, contributing to the local USD 454 school system through providing scholarships, sponsoring band camp memberships, and awarding funds for essay contest winners. Additionally, the lodge has installed playground equipment in the city of Burlingame and recently donated $2,500 to the Burlington Saddle Club to construct a new secure entry gate to the Saddle Club grounds.
“The mission of the Burlingame Historical Preservation Society is to preserve and maintain the Burlingame area history and make it available to the public to further their education and knowledge of the Burlingame community and its history,” said Corinthian Lodge No. 79 Secretary Keith Scheid. “This includes oral or written histories, buildings (such as the Schuyler Elementary School and Superior Schoolhouse), Santa Fe Avenue (a historic brick street), and other historical sites and artifacts. The museum tries to engage the community, especially the youth, in learning about local history and its broader impact. The museum youth volunteers have helped create displays, paint rooms, manage inventory, and help with fundraising efforts.”
Furthering their mission of supporting the local community, the Brothers at Corinthian Lodge No. 79 have teamed up with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to donate $2,500 to the Burlingame Historical Preservation Society. The entirely volunteer-run organization works with the community to support activities such as Rodeo Days, Country Christmas, and Veteran’s Day, in addition to partnering with the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce and Library. In April of 2022, the Museum Board was informed that the boiler didn’t pass inspection and received a bid for over $70,000, with the option to either replace the boiler or close the museum. The funds donated by Corinthian Lodge No. 79 will be put toward replacing the current boiler, and a formal donation announcement and presentation will take place in the coming month.
