Kansas Masonic Foundation Supports Local Kansas Masonic Lodge With Walnut Community Organization Donation
Fort Scott, Kansas (September 30, 2022)—The Kansas Masonic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefitting Kansas communities, has partnered with Vulcan Lodge No. 229 to donate $250 to the Walnut Community Organization, a program that sponsors the annual Walnut Labor Day Celebration.
Founded in 1884, Vulcan Lodge No. 229 is a Kansas Masonic lodge dedicated to Freemasonry, the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world. The lodge has 31 members and is heavily involved in the local community, including providing over $64,000 in scholarships to area students, hosting free cancer screening clinics for community members, raising over $6,000 for cancer research, and assembling a gazebo for the Glenwood Cemetery. The Brothers at Vulcan Lodge No. 229 also regularly contribute to local events in the community, including the Labor Day Celebration, Trunk or Treat, the Pup DeLange Horseshoe Contest, the Mirza Wind Wizards’ Annual Toy Run, and sponsoring area band students and cheerleaders during the Kansas Shrine Bowl.
“The Brethren of Vulcan Lodge No. 229 believe in our community, and we strive to help local causes that benefit youth in our area,” said Vulcan Lodge No. 229 Secretary Donald Wheeler. “As such, we either host or sponsor several different events in which we can make a difference. Since 2003, our lodge has donated over $90,000 to charitable causes.”
Furthering their mission of helping community youth, the Brothers at Vulcan Lodge No. 229 have teamed up with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to donate $250 to the Walnut Community Organization. The organization sponsors the annual Walnut Labor Day Celebration, which includes a 5k race, parade, children’s games, tractor pull, car show, horseshoe contest, street festival, and dance. This marks the lodge’s fifth year contributing to the organization to help cover costs for the annual event. In conjunction with the event, Vulcan Lodge No. 229 hosted a free cancer screening for about 80 individuals in the area. The funds donated by the lodge in collaboration with the Kansas Masonic Foundation helped purchase prizes for the kids’ events and were previously awarded to the organization prior to this year’s event.
