Kansas Masonic Foundation Supports Local Kansas Masonic Lodge With Salvation Army Donation

Newton, Kansas (October 29, 2021)—The Kansas Masonic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefiting Kansas communities, has partnered with Newton Lodge No. 142 to donate $250 to the Salvation Army, whose mission emphasizes aiding the poor and people in need. The local branch also offers human services through its programs, including disaster relief and public emergency services.

Founded in 1873, Newton Lodge No. 142 is a Kansas Masonic lodge dedicated to Freemasonry, the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world. The lodge has nearly 200 members and is committed to supporting activities and projects in the local community. Their most notable contributions include supporting the community food bank, the Salvation Army Thanksgiving and Christmas meals programs, and distributing food during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The Brothers also help with grocery delivery to elderly community members and support the local Fire Department’s fire prevention initiative.

“Our Brothers define doing good charitable work as supporting activities and projects that will make our community a better place to live,” said Newton Lodge No. 142 Secretary Gary Dix. “The local Salvation Army provides support to those in need through clothing, food, and help with utility bills to ensure that all individuals have access to hot water.”

In an effort to better the community in which they live, the Newton Lodge No. 142 has supported the Salvation Army for over 30 years, making regular donations and collecting food for their local food pantry. This year, the Brothers at Newton Lodge No. 142 have teamed up with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to provide a monetary donation of $250 to the local Salvation Army branch to help provide Thanksgiving meals to less fortunate families in the community. The donation will cover the cost of roughly 105 meals to fellow neighbors and will be delivered to the local Salvation Army office in Newton, Kansas, the first week of November.
