EducationHiawatha Lodge No. 35 Donates $500 to Local Middle School Astronomy Club
Kansas Masonic Foundation Supports Local Kansas Masonic Lodge With Astronomy Club Donation
Hiawatha, Kansas (April 7, 2021)—The Kansas Masonic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to benefiting Kansas communities, has partnered with Hiawatha Lodge No. 35 to donate $500 to the Hiawatha Middle School Astronomy Club, an organization dedicated to providing necessary classroom resources and equipment and promoting scientific learning and skill-building among students.
Founded in 1861, Hiawatha Lodge No. 35 is a Kansas Masonic lodge dedicated to Freemasonry, the oldest surviving fraternal organization in the world. The lodge has 219 members and supports numerous local charities, including contributing to the Kansas Masonic All-State High School Marching Band Camp, an event designed to fill a void at the yearly summer Kansas Shrine Bowl and raise funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The lodge also supports the local Annual Jingle Bell Ride in downtown Hiawatha, an event collecting donations and Christmas toys to benefit local families in need.
“Our Brothers at Hiawatha Lodge No. 35 define charitable work by giving back to the community,” said Hiawatha Lodge No. 35 Secretary Jamie Carwell. “This will be our fourth consecutive year donating to the Hiawatha Middle School Astronomy Club to help students receive a well-rounded education.”
Continuing with their support of the Hiawatha Middle School Astronomy Club, the Brothers at Hiawatha Lodge No. 35 have teamed up with the Kansas Masonic Foundation to provide a monetary donation of $500 to Hiawatha Middle School. The funds will be used to finance a child’s summer space camp experience at the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas, and provide additional astronomy equipment to be used in the classroom. Hiawatha Lodge No. 35 has previously supported 13 local students on their mission to space camp and plans to present the funds at Hiawatha Middle School prior to May 1, 2021.
